Vehicle Sale Paperwork Guide in Surrey

Before arranging a vehicle sale or pickup, make sure you understand who can sell the vehicle and what documents are needed for the actual transaction.

This guide helps you prepare an enquiry with Lower Mainland Scrap Recycling Center in Surrey. Start with the vehicle information, explain the ownership situation and resolve missing details before a collection is booked.

Start With the Vehicle and Owner

Write down the year, make, model and location. Check what documents you already have and whether they relate to that vehicle. Explain whether you are the registered owner or are making the enquiry for someone else.

Do not assume that possession of a vehicle, its keys or a parking space gives you authority to sell it. If anything is unclear, raise the question before a price or collection date is agreed.

For company vehicles, explain who is authorised to handle the sale. For an estate or another unusual situation, tell us at the beginning rather than wait until collection day.

Official Guidance for a Standard Used Vehicle Sale

ICBC's standard sale guidance identifies the signed vehicle registration, APV250, and Transfer/Tax Form, APV9T. Original signatures are required. It recommends attending an Autoplan broker with the buyer, removing your plates and keeping the relevant records. The buyer must register the purchase within ten days.

If documents are missing or the registered owner has died, ask an Autoplan broker about the appropriate next steps. Confirm the applicable process for your transaction, especially where a vehicle is being sold as scrap rather than through a standard used vehicle sale.

Questions to Resolve Before Booking

Ask what documents are needed, who needs to sign and who must be available at collection. Explain if a document is missing, the recorded owner is different or someone else is handling the sale.

Also discuss how the sale and collection records will be provided. A collection receipt should not be treated as automatic proof that every required ownership step has been completed.

Keep your questions specific. For example, explain that you have the vehicle but cannot locate its registration, rather than ask only whether paperwork is necessary.

If Your Documents Are Missing

Tell us what is available and what cannot be found. Do not alter documents, sign for another person without appropriate authority or assume a handwritten note resolves the issue.

Missing documents are a reason to clarify the process before booking. They are not a promise that the vehicle can be accepted without proof of ownership.

Allow time to obtain the right guidance and any required records. It is better to resolve the issue before a collection is arranged than to discover a problem when the vehicle is expected to leave.

If You Are Helping Someone Else

Explain your relationship to the owner and who will approve the sale. Helping a relative send an enquiry is different from being authorised to complete a transaction.

For a business vehicle, keep the business contact involved. For an estate, make clear who is responsible for the enquiry and which records are available. Where authority is uncertain, obtain the correct official guidance before proceeding.

Do not upload private identification records through an initial general enquiry. Ask how any necessary document checks should be handled.

Prepare the Vehicle for Collection

Once the arrangements are confirmed, check the vehicle for personal belongings and documents. Look in storage compartments, under seats and in the boot.

Remove garage remotes, parking passes and other items connected to your home or workplace. Clear saved personal information from connected systems where practical.

Keep the vehicle consistent with the description used for the offer. If something is removed or its condition changes, tell us before collection. Explain any access change as well, such as another vehicle blocking the driveway.

Keep the Transaction Details Together

Keep a record of the agreed vehicle, amount, collection arrangements and relevant transaction documents. Ask for clarification if the details do not match what you understood.

Avoid relying only on a short message that says the vehicle will be collected. Make sure you know the business contact and the agreed next steps. If you still have an ownership question after collection, use the appropriate official source rather than assume the matter has been completed.

Both enquiries should explain the actual condition, location and ownership situation. Our FAQ page covers general collection questions, while the service pages explain assessment in more detail.

Paperwork Questions

Can I arrange collection first and sort out ownership later?

Resolve the required ownership questions before a booking is confirmed. Explain what documents are available and who is authorised to sell. A collection date does not replace the appropriate transaction process.

Can I send photos of private documents with my first enquiry?

Start with the vehicle details and a description of the question. Do not send sensitive identity or ownership records through a general enquiry unless the appropriate document handling process has been explained.

Does the same process apply to every vehicle?

Do not assume that it does. The transaction type, registration situation and authority to sell may affect the required steps. Use current official guidance and confirm the process for your actual vehicle before arranging collection.

Where can I get the official information?

Use ICBC's vehicle sale guidance and an Autoplan broker for questions about the applicable process. Our team can explain the information needed to assess your collection enquiry.
